Increase in Graduating Debt Load

The graduating debt load for the Class of 2006 averaged $21,000 which is roughly 8% higher than it was for the graduating Class of 2005. While still a rather manageable number for most graduates, the growth still generates concern, especially for those pursuing non-profit and/or traditionally lower-paying professions such as social work and teaching. Average starting salaries for the Class of 2006 were up 4% over the previous year.
