Who We Help

Through our innovative programs and products, the National Center for College Costs serves a variety of audiences. Whether it’s a parent evaluating how to pay for college, a student navigating the college admission process, an institution of higher learning seeking a comprehensive strategy to meet the federal Net Price Calculator mandate, or a foundation administering scholarships, the NCCC is here to help.

Students and Parents

Our focus is on reaching as many students and families as possible across the socioeconomic spectrum with the message that college can be affordable and accessible. We do this by empowering them with the necessary information and by linking them with the resources they need to take the next steps.

We consider each and every student and family we touch through our programming to be a "client" of the National Center for College Costs. As a part of the College Costs Estimator Program, interested families fill out an online College Costs Estimator (CCE) that captures household information, both financial and demographic. Those attending schools or participating in other programs sponsoring NCCC activities have access to our staff via a toll-free number and email as questions arise during the college process.

In order to reach large numbers of students and their families, our primary programming work is done utilizing a time and cost-effective group workshop format. We don't take individual clients for a fee and have been able to maintain our core focus largely due to the financial support of philanthropic foundations, school systems, colleges, and businesses. Their support enables many families to receive programs and services they otherwise would not be able to afford and which many would not receive elsewhere.

Colleges and Universities

In 2010, we used our experience and expertise to launch a new Net Price Calculator product to assist colleges in complying with a federal mandate, requiring all colleges to post a net price calculator on their websites by October 2011. We also worked with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education to build and deploy a cutting-edge website for Hoosier families, the Indiana College Costs Estimator, that helps increase transparency in higher education funding and boost families' ability to understand the financial aid system well ahead of the senior year. Further, as part of the license agreement with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the Indiana College Costs Estimator also serves as a FREE NPC solution for any Indiana institution that chooses to use it as such.

Foundations & Grantors

Our funders include foundations, schools, youth-serving programs, colleges, and businesses who believe in the far-reaching impact for both individual families and for society that can come from their investment in our programming. As such, our commitment to them extends beyond just providing quality programming to students and families. Our funders often are key players in helping shape local education issues. We aim to provide programming feedback and evaluation that can help inform future policies and practices, and help them better understand the issues today's students and their families face when it comes to higher education.

Additionally, many of our foundation clients also are scholarship administrators, a good number of whom utilize our expertise to help systematically quantify the financial need of their applicants. Through our Scholarship Screening Service, foundations receive customized applicant reports and technical support that assists them in identifying which students most need the limited dollars available through their scholarship programs.
